  • IMPROVING STUDENT PERFORMANCE

This school year the North Beach School District has committed its resources to training principals and teachers in the latest research on effective practices and instructional tools to improve student classroom performance.  Our students are expected to be proficient in state defined academic standards at each grade level and are tested on those at the end of each year.  Starting in the 2012-2013 school year, our students will transition from the current state standards to what are known as the “Common Core State Standards”, adopted by more than 40 states.

In order to assist our administrators and teaching staff, the North Beach School District applied for and received one of only 13 grants in the state which is focused on preparing our staff and students in research based teaching and learning in math.  Since the start of school we have been actively learning and using standards, new instructional strategies, and regular assessments to inform us of our students’ math progress.  Our goal is to become more consistent, skilled, and effective in assisting students in meeting their potential as well as meeting standards on state tests.

On our website we have a Question and Answer Guide that will help you to better understand this process.  Also available is a Glossary of Terms that are used throughout the school improvement process.

  • WALKWAYS

New caution lights have been installed at Ocean Shores Elementary.  The lights have been installed for the safety of the students as well as motorist.

The lights are just one of the components of our Safety Program to help students get safely to school and back.  We will also be conducting classes with the students to enhance their awareness of safety.

The City of Ocean Shores has installed walkways along State Route 115, in addition to the caution lights already there, to help our secondary students get safely to and from school.  This was a much needed project and one that should improve that whole area.

Please use caution when you enter any school zone area and thank you to the City of Ocean Shores for improving the walkways to our schools!
