  • Happy Holidays from the Superintendent

Every day parents entrust the wellbeing of their children to the educators of the North Beach School District.  On behalf of the North Beach Staff, please accept our sincere gratitude for entrusting us with your most precious gift, your children.

I’m sure many of you remember A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh classic.  Milne wrote, “Piglet noticed that even though he had a very small heart, it could hold a rather large amount of gratitude.”  Just as Piglet was grateful for the abundance in his life; great friends, a warm place to sleep at night and a few honeycombs to eat, so too am I, grateful to have landed in North Beach.  The warmth and spirit that embodies North Beach can be felt from Ocean Shores Elementary to North Beach Jr./Sr. High, all the way up the coast to Pacific Beach Elementary and everywhere in between.

This past week I had the opportunity to visit each schools’ holiday concert. The spirit at each concert was remarkable and certainly embodies the essence of caring and community that exists in North Beach.  Our kids are lucky to live in such a compassionate environment.

I also had the privilege of watching our Knowledge Bowl teams compete at Grays Harbor College on Friday.  We had three teams competing and two of our teachers at the high school, Mr. Bouma and Mr. Oaks, coaching them to success.  I was able to observe each of our teams during one of their rounds and I was so impressed with how each individual student interacted with their teammates, supporting one another and truly working together to agree on the answer the Captain would share.  Critical thinking and problem solving are some of the most important skills employers look for today and these students demonstrated that they are prepared to take these skills into the work force.  Keep up the great work!

I feel very blessed to work every day alongside such caring and committed adults.  Their optimism, talent and creativity support each North Beach student with opportunities to learn and grow and achieve their dreams.

In closing, I’ll leave you with one more quote from A.A. Milne’s Winne the Pooh

    How do you spell love?

    -Piglet-

You don’t spell it you feel it.”

    -Pooh-

I’m grateful to feel the love this community has for our kids each and every day!  Have a wonderful holiday!

    Cheers!

  • WINTER WEATHER

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

Winter weather is definitely upon us!  On Monday, December 5, we posted a 2 hour delay for our schools due to snow and icy conditions on the north end of the district.  Although many of you may not have experienced snow in Ocean Shores proper, our families between the Casino and Pacific Beach were impacted.

Please know that we make every effort to ensure your child’s safety while traveling to and from school.  Delaying school start times and closing schools for inclement weather is of a last resort.  There will be times, such as Monday, that it may not be clear to you as to why a delay or closure occurred, especially if you don’t see any weather related problems where you live.

Our transportation director and I are in phone contact early on mornings such as Monday, making decisions based on current road conditions across our district.  We make the best decision we can at that time to ensure safe traveling conditions for both students and our bus drivers.

Hopefully, we won’t have too many more opportunities for changes in our school schedules.  However, please stay tuned to the following for updated information regarding late starts and closures:

Please remind your children to wear light colored, reflective clothing and think safety as they make their way to school.  Plan to have your children arrive 5 minutes early at bus stops and stand in clear view.

As always, we appreciate you understanding and support.

    Cheers!
